Please review the calendar of events for the next several months and discuss upcoming events with your Scout. I have heard Scouts say they need to check with their parents before they can commit to the event.  Sign ups are at meetings and Scouts need to know if they can participate

Welcome !
Troop 85 serves Fox Lake IL and the surrounding communities. Through our active boys, active parents, and active leaders we maintain a fun, safe environment that teaches our young men the values and morals they need to become outstanding citizens in our community and nation.

Troop 85 meets at 7:00 PM every Tuesday at St. Bedes church, located at the intersection of Grand Ave. and Wilson Rd. in Ingleside. (map)

Short Notes
  • Those who have recently graduated from DARE, please bring your certificate and talk to Mr. Anderson or an Assistant Scoutmaster and review Second Class requirement 8a to complete it.
  • Please bring your Scout Handbook to the meeting. We will update the database and your book.
  • Good job to those who completed the 1-mile orienteering course!
  • There are still opportunities for Scouts to attend the 2010 National Jamboree and for leaders to work at the Jamboree.  See Mr. Anderson if you are interested. More information at: http://bsajamboree.org/
Up, Up, and Away
The Experimental Avaition Association (EAA) Young Eagles Program offers a free flight to those 8 to 17 years old. The local club flies out of Waukegan, Kenosha, Racine and Galt airports. More information can be found at: http://www.youngeagles.org/ This is a great opportunity to find out more about aviation. You can also complete requirements for the Aviation Merit Badge.
Summertime meeting location
As usual, Troop 85 will be changing the location for our weekly meetings during the summer months. Once again we will be meeting at the rear shelter in Grant forest preserve. The first meeting at the summertime location will be June 16th.

Because we need to be out of the preserve parking lot before closing time the weekly meeting starts a half hour earlier, at 6:30 PM. PLC starts at 6:00. The meeting will end at 8pm and scouts will need to be picked up on time. As the gates to the preserve close shortly after the end of the meeting and we do not want to make the Ranger wait for us!

It will be summertime and we'll be outdoors, so it should be no surprise that bugs in general and mosquitoes in particular will be troublesome. Be sure to bring/wear insect repellent (non-aerosol only!). Scouts should wear their troop activity tshirt and not their uniform shirt. As we will be outside and doing outdoor activities, so no flip flops or open toe sandals (just like on campouts!). Bring a water bottle and "Be Prepared" for the weather, as we are outside.

Interested in Scouting?
Why join scouting?
Scouting reinforces the skills and values we want our sons to learn while they're having fun. Click the Joining tab for more reasons.

How do I Join?
Boy Scouting is open to any boy between the ages of 11 and 18. For more information please feel free to drop us an email or visit one of our weekly meetings.

Scouting is for parents, too!
Active, committed Leaders and parents are the heart and soul of a successful Troop. You don't need to have any special abilities to make a huge difference in a young man's life. Volunteer to help at one of our many events; you'll be glad you did!

Parents are encouraged to come in and listen to announcements during closing at 8:15pm.
